Geographical location
Rüdenschiessen is about 2 km west of Fladungen not far from the Bavarian - Thuringian border and is connected to the main town via the NES 27 district road and the 2288 state road . The community of Hausen is about 1.5 km to the southwest .
The place is located on the southwestern slope of the Hochrhön and is part of the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park and the Rhön Biosphere Reserve .
history
Rüdenschiessen was first mentioned in 907 as the property of the abbot of Fulda with the name Rudolswinden . According to a legend, gypsies passing through had lost a wheel of their car and then settled in the present-day location.
The name probably refers to the clearing of a Rudolf by Schwenden . The place later belonged to the Fladungen office .
The Catholic parish church was built in 1781 and expanded in 1926. During the expansion, it was equipped with pictures by the Rhön painter Anton Rausch . The Pfeusthof was located near Rüdenschrecken . In its place there is now a car rest area with a good view of the Streutal valley .
The youth center, the fire station and the community bakery and slaughterhouse are public facilities in the district .
