Ralf Abrahms

Ralf "Charly" Abrahms (* 1958 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ), political scientist and, since September 22, 2002, mayor of Bad Harzburg. He is the first mayor of his party in Lower Saxony .

Life

Abrahms grew up in Bad Harzburg and graduated from the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium in 1978. He studied political science in Marburg , Braunschweig and Göttingen with subsequent additional training as a project manager .

Abrahms lives in Bettingerode (as of 2019) .

Political career

Abrahms has been represented on the Bad Harzburg city council since 1981. From 1990 to 1995 he was the head of the economic department and second deputy to the mayor in Halberstadt , in the following time he worked as a district member and deputy district chairman in the Goslar district .

Since 2001 Abrahms has been a member of the general assembly of the Greater Braunschweig special purpose association , where he is currently represented as a member of the regional planning committee of the Goslar district association.

Mayor of the City of Bad Harzburg

On June 1, 1997, Abrahms applied for the office of Mayor of Bad Harzburg for the first time and achieved a voter turnout of 54.1% behind incumbent Mayor Klaus Homann ( SPD ) as well as candidates Wilhelm Paul ( CDU ) and Rainer Warnecke (independent) fourth place. In 2002 Abrahms applied again and this time successfully as a direct candidate for the full-time mayor position of the city of Bad Harzburg, which he took up on September 22, 2002. He was confirmed as a direct candidate on September 11, 2011 with a clear majority.

As part of the mayoral election on May 26, 2019, Ralf Abrahms announced his resumption of the mayoral election on December 29, 2018. The CDU voted in advance at a general meeting in February 2019 not to nominate a candidate. On May 26, 2019, he prevailed with 60.36% over his competitor Thomas Ebert ( SPD ).
