Ralf Seekatz (born November 10, 1972 in Dernbach (Westerwald) ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and former mayor of the city of Westerburg . Since 2019 he is a member of the European Parliament as an MEP for the CDU ( European People's Party ) and deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU group in the European Parliament.

Professional background

After graduating from high school in Westerburg, Seekatz first completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at a medium-sized company and then completed a degree in administrative sciences in Mayen . After graduating with a degree in administrative management (FH) , he worked for eight years in various authorities before he became a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament in 2006 .

Political career

Seekatz was chairman of the CDU local association Westerburg from 1999 to 2007 and has been chairman of the CDU community association Westerburger-Land since 2015.

From 1999 he was a member of the city ​​council of Westerburg and from 2004 to 2007 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group . From 2007 to 2019 he took over the office of mayor of the city of Westerburg. He was also a member of the Westerburg municipal council and deputy parliamentary group chairman (2004–2019). He has been a member of the Westerwald district assembly since 2009 and district treasurer in the CDU district of Koblenz-Montabaur since 2018.

Seekatz was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 2006 to 2019 and, for his parliamentary group, a member of the Interior Committee and a member of the European Committee. He was also a European spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group.

In the 2019 European elections , Seekatz was elected to the European Parliament as a candidate for the CDU district of Koblenz-Montabaur. There he is a member of the Group of the European People's Party (EPP) and has been deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU group since September 2019.

He is also a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and an alternate member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL).
