Ralf Sygusch

Ralf Sygusch (* 1965 ) is a German sports educator and university lecturer .

Life

 Sygusch, who comes from Gütersloh , studied educational science at Bielefeld University until 1991, with a minor in psychology. He then worked in youth and adult education as well as in the sports club, while he also studied sports and pedagogy for teaching in Bielefeld and wrote his doctoral thesis. In 1999 he passed the first state examination and in the same year obtained his doctorate at the University of Bielefeld. The topic of his dissertation was "Sports activity and subjective health concepts of adolescents". From 1995 to 1997 he worked for Arminia Bielefeld as a full-time "youth sports coordinator football". As early as 1984 he had exercised various coaching activities in football, including for the Football and Athletics Association Westphalia .

From 1997 Sygusch worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Bayreuth . From 2000 he was a research assistant and in 2006 and 2007 he was an academic senior councilor. In 2006 he completed his habilitation in Bayreuth, in which he worked out a scientific framework that determined design options for promoting “psychosocial resources in sport”. In 2007 he took up a professorship for sports education and sports psychology at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and in 2009 switched to the chair for sports education and didactics at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . Sygusch stayed there until 2011. In the winter semester 2011 he took over the professorship for sports education and didactics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

In 2016, Sygusch was elected spokesman for the sports education section in the German Association for Sports Science .

His main research interests include children's and youth sports, including the subject of personality and team development, quality management in sports, questions relating to the qualification of trainers in sports, soccer training and health sports.

At the Deutsche Sportjugend , Sygusch is one of the members of the research association. He is co-editor of the “Sportforum” series of publications to disseminate the work of young scientists and a member of the education commission of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
