Ralph Bigod

Sir Ralph Bigod of Settrington and Mulgrave († 1461 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Ralph Bigod (also Bygod, Bigott, Bigot) was a son of Sir John Bigod and Constance, daughter of Peter Mauley, 5th Baron Mauley . A line of the Bigod family held the title of Earl of Norfolk between 1141 and 1306 .

Sir Ralph was Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1451/52 and 1457/58 .

During the Wars of the Roses , Sir Ralph fought for the House of Lancaster in 1460 at the Battle of Wakefield , in 1461 at the Second Battle of St Albans and at Towton .

Sir Ralph fell at Towton on March 29, 1461.
