Ralph Diseviscourt (born July 3, 1976 in Wiltz , Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg extreme sport and cyclist . He also holds the 24-hour world record in cycling.
Career
Ralph Diseviscourt began cycling at the age of 27.
He received a license from the LC Kayl cycling club and was henceforth to be found in the amateur sector of Luxembourg cycling. Diseviscourt has won several cycling races at home and abroad. In 2009 he won the national championship in the individual time trial in the elite category without a contract. He also took second place in the road race . Up to 2013 Diseviscourt was able to defend his title in the individual time trial in the five following years. In 2012 he finished the Flèche du Sud in 33rd place. Thus Diseviscourt was the best driver of the FSCL team.
In 2013 he was part of the squad of Luxembourg cyclists at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Luxembourg. There he just missed a medal with fourth place in the time trial. In the same year he took part in the Tour of Luxembourg and was again part of the Luxembourg national squad.
Focus on extreme sports since 2011
In 2011 Ralph Diseviscourt drove his first extreme bike race. In the Tour du Mont-Blanc , the participants have to complete 335 km and over 8100 meters of altitude, spread over seven peaks around Mont Blanc. Diseviscourt took first place when he participated for the first time. In the following year he was able to repeat this success. In 2013 and 2014 he finished the race in second place.
Diseviscourt then specialized in this type of race. In 2014 he took part in the “Raid Provence Extrême” (RPE) for the first time, a 590 km long bike race with over 10,000 hm, which leads across Provence (France). Diseviscourt was in the lead for a long time when he collided with a wild boar that night and had to give up first place to Omar di Felice . At the finish, the two were only five minutes apart.
In the same year he took part in the Race Across the Dolomits , the Dolomitica. The 585 km long race led over 15 passes and let the participants complete over 16,000 hm. Diseviscourt won the race and qualified for the Race Across America .
The year 2015 was all about preparing for the Race Across America . Friends and relatives formed the "Team Dizzy" and from then on accompanied Ralph during his races. In May Diseviscourt won the Raid Provence Extrême by a large margin. In June he took part in the one-day race Race Across The Alps (RATA) for the first time and finished in third place.
In August 2015 Diseviscourt and his team of four drove the Tortour , also known as the “Race around Switzerland”. In this non-stop bike race, the participants have to complete around 1000 km and 14500 m ascent. In rainy weather conditions, which Diseviscourt accommodated, he finished the race safely in first place after 36:51:22 h.
In July 2016, he finally started the Race Across America, which runs 4940 km from the American west to the east coast. Diseviscourt achieved 4th place when he participated for the first time, with a time of 10 days, 18 hours and 19 minutes. Shortly afterwards, he returned to the Tortour as last year's winner , but where he had to admit defeat to the Swiss Lionel Poggio .
After a third place in his first participation in the Race Around Slovenia , he also achieved a second place in the Race Around Austria in 2017 . Diseviscourt started 2018 with another victory at the Race Across Italy. On June 22, 2018, he came second across the line at the Race Across America: He needed 9 days, 12 hours and 33 minutes for the 4,935 km, and was second behind Christoph Strasser (8 days, 1 hour and 23 minutes). He finished the season with a win in the 10th edition of the Tortour . In the same year he was voted ultra athlete of the year by the Luxembourg sports press. Since this category did not exist before, Diseviscourt is the first athlete to receive this award.
On July 11th, Diseviscourt tried to break the 24-hour world record in cycling. The previous official record of the Australian Mich Anderson (894.35 kilometers) was beaten by Diseviscourt with 915.39 kilometers. So he drove an average of 38.1 kilometers per hour over the entire time. In addition, Diseviscourt broke the records for 100 kilometers, 100 miles, 200 kilometers, 200 miles, 500 kilometers, 500 miles and over 6 hours in his attempt.
