Ralph Lenkert (born May 9, 1967 in Apolda ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). He has been a member of the German Bundestag since the 2009 Bundestag election .

education and profession

Lenkert grew up in Jena . He graduated from the Polytechnic High School in 1983 and then trained as a toolmaker at Carl Zeiss in Jena . From 1986 to 1991 he worked in this profession at Zeiss, interrupted by 1.5 years of basic military service with the NVA . In 1990 he became a member of IG Metall .

From 1991 he worked in various companies as a toolmaker and manager . From 1991 to 1995, Lenkert completed a distance learning course with a technical college degree as a state-certified technician specializing in mechanical engineering . From 2002 to 2006 he worked again as a technologist for Zeiss, among other things, contrary to his political convictions, he was responsible for the outsourcing of jobs to China . From 2006, until his election to the Bundestag, he was a technologist at Sypro Optics GmbH (now part of Jabil Circuit ), which was spun off from Zeiss, and was Deputy Chairman of the Works Council.

Political career

Ralph Lenkert came into politics as a father of two through his involvement in family politics. In 2004 he joined the Jena Alliance for the Preservation of Elementary Schools. In 2005 he became co-initiator and speaker of the popular initiative for a better family policy in Thuringia. He belongs to the Thuringian regional association for day care centers (TLfK).

For the 2009 Bundestag election , Lenkert was elected the top candidate in Thuringia and the direct candidate for the Bundestag constituency Gera - Jena - Saale-Holzland district by the party Die Linke, without belonging to a party or having ever held a mandate . With 30.4% of the first votes, Lenkert won the direct mandate in his constituency against Roland Richwien (CDU) and Volker Blumentritt (SPD) and moved into the Bundestag. He was one of sixteen Bundestag candidates for the Left Party nationwide who were directly elected. In January 2011 he joined the party Die Linke.

In the 2013 federal election he lost his direct mandate to the CDU candidate Albert Weiler , but was able to remain in the Bundestag via the state list of his party, on which he ran in second place. He has also been a city councilor in Jena since 2014.

For the 2017 federal election he was a direct candidate in the newly tailored federal constituency Jena - Sömmerda - Weimarer Land I to the CDU applicant Johannes Selle , but was able to move into the Bundestag again via second place on his party's state list.

In the Bundestag, Ralph Lenkert is a full member of the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety , a deputy member of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment and rapporteur for technology assessment.

Since 2014 he has been a member of the Advisory Council of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) for the DIE LINKE parliamentary group in the Bundestag .
