Ramón Castillo
Ramón S. Castillo Barrionuevo (born November 20, 1873 in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca , Argentina , † October 12, 1944 ) was an Argentine politician and president of the country .
He started studying law at the age of eighteen.
In the late 1930s he was appointed Minister of Justice to the government of President Roberto María Ortiz , after a career as Senator for the Tucumán Province . He was later appointed Vice President.
In 1942, Castillo took over from Roberto Ortiz, who was in poor health. Domestically, he followed an authoritarian, right-wing course. He failed to get the political tensions and wing conflicts within the state and the army under control. Although he nationalized the natural gas industry, his government generally followed an ordoliberal stance on economic issues .
In terms of foreign policy, he sympathized with the Third Reich and National Socialism , but officially pursued a neutral course. There was increasing tension within the government and the military , which resulted in the putsch of the fascist-oriented GOU ( Grupo de Oficiales Unidos ) on June 4, 1943 against the Castillo government.
Castillo died near Buenos Aires in 1944 .
