Ramón Echarren Istúriz (born November 13, 1929 in Vitoria-Gasteiz , † August 25, 2014 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ) was Bishop of the Canary Islands .

Life

Ramón Echarren Istúriz studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1958) and social sciences at the Catholic University of Leo . He was ordained a priest on March 19, 1958 . He was committed to Caritas and social pastoral care throughout his life .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 17, 1969 auxiliary bishop in Madrid and titular bishop of Diano . The Archbishop of Madrid Casimiro Morcillo González donated him episcopal ordination on December 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Fernando Cardinal Quiroga y Palacios , Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela and Arturo Cardinal Tabera Araoz CMF , Archbishop of Pamplona-Tudela .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of the Canary Islands on November 27, 1978.

In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was secretary of the Commission for the Clergy (1968-1970) and a member of the Commission for the Clergy (1972-1975) and the Commission for Social Media (1972-1975). He was a member of the commissions for pastoral care (1972–1984), for the lay apostolate (1975–1978) and for social pastoral care (1984–2005). He represented the Spanish Bishops' Conference from 1975 to 1978 in the EU Commission.

On November 26, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
