Ram Pratap Thapa

Ram Pratap Thapa ( Nepalese : राम प्रताप थापा, Rām Pratāp Thāpā, born June 6, 1950 in Gorkha ) is Honorary Consul General of the Democratic Federal Republic of Nepal in Cologne and works as chairman of the German-Nepalese Society eV and in several other non-governmental organizations for international understanding between Nepal and Germany . As a founding member of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), he represents the interests of the worldwide Nepalese diaspora .

Life

Thapa grew up in Bhairahawa and Kathmandu and completed an MBA with a focus on financing and marketing at the Tribhuvan University in Kirtipur (near Kathmandu). After a brief activity in business research and teaching at the Tribhuvan University, he moved to Bamberg in 1976 . At the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg he completed his studies with a degree in business administration with a focus on banking .

From the mid-1980s until his retirement in 2015, Thapa worked in various positions at the Stadtsparkasse Köln .

Social Commitment

Thapa is a co-founder and active member of numerous German-Nepalese non-governmental organizations .

German-Nepalese Society eV

Thapa has been a board member of the German-Nepalese Society in Cologne since 1988 . After holding positions as managing director and deputy chairman, he has been chairman of the association since 1999. The annual “Nepal Day” in Bonn and the “NGO Forum Nepal”, the annual meeting of German Nepal NGOs , go back to his initiative .

As a member of the editorial board of the specialist journal “Nepal Information” published by the German-Nepalese Society , he has been writing regularly since 1988 on economic and development issues in Nepal.

Non-resident Nepali Association

Thapa is a founding member of the diaspora organization Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). After two years as a member of the NRNA's International Coordination Council , he was elected its vice-president. Two years later he moved to the post of Vice President for the Europe Region before being elected Vice President of the International Coordination Council . After a failed application for the office of President of the International Coordination Council , he is now the official patron of the NRNA.

As part of his NRNA work, he made connections with Nepalese diaspora communities across Europe.

His special concern is the enforcement of dual citizenship for Nepalese living abroad, for which he campaigns in Nepalese politics and public also in his function as coordinator of the NRNA task force "Dual Citizenship".

  • Thapa is a board member of the Asia Foundation in Essen.
  • With Gunther Nogge , Thapa founded the German committee of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (now the National Trust for Nature Conservation)
  • Thapa was a co-founder of the Nepal Pariwar Familienkreis eV association
