Ramason Rahimov

Ramason Rahimow ( Tajik Рамазон Раҳимов ; born April 25, 1960 ) is a Tajik politician . Since January 2012 he has been the Interior Minister of Tajikistan .

Career

Rahimov was born on April 25, 1960. In 1982 he completed a degree in engineering and in 1983 found his first job in the civil service . After cases of embezzlement and abuse of office , Rahmimow was active in the southwest of what is now Tajikistan, including in Kulob , where he was particularly involved in the fight against official offenses. In 1989, he was appointed head of the Anti-Embezzlement Branch in Danghara . Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the independence of Tajikistan in 1991, Rahimov continued his career in the field of law enforcement . In 1992, he became the deputy head of the Internal Affairs Division of the Danghara Police Department. In 1995 he moved to the nearby Norak , before becoming deputy head of the economic crime department in the Tajik Interior Ministry in 1995 . In March 2005, President Emomali appointed Rahmon Rahimov as Deputy Minister of the Interior. In 2007 he became head of the Tajikistan Migration Agency. On July 29, 2011, Rahimov was promoted to lieutenant general on the orders of the Tajik President .

On January 5, 2012, Ramason Rahimov was appointed Interior Minister of Tajikistan by decree by President Rahmon. Rahimov has held this office to this day. A central theme of his term in office so far is the fight against Islamist terrorism and in particular the Islamic State , which is recruiting numerous followers in Tajikistan. In particular, the murder of four bicycle tourists in Tajikistan by the Islamic State attracted increased attention to the issue. Rahimov then warned several times about the dangers of terrorism and at the same time accused the banned Islamic Party of the Rebirth of Tajikistan to be responsible for the attack. In response to the attack, Rahimov also attended the world premiere of a play that tells the story of a youth who joins IS. Allegedly, the piece is said to have been written by Rahimov himself, who has already appeared as the author of numerous poems.

Rahimov also represents Tajikistan externally in his role as minister, especially at conferences and meetings with counterparts. In February 2018, in his former role as Chairman of the Council of Interior Ministers of the CIS countries in Moscow, he signed an agreement on the establishment of a coordination office for the fight against organized crime . During a visit to Beijing in March 2019, Rahimov met with Zhao Kezhi , among others, and agreed on more intensive bilateral cooperation, including on counter-terrorism .

Rahimov also made headlines by ordering police officers and Interior Ministry officials to attend a theater performance at least once a month in 2017 . In December 2016, he also urged overweight police officers to significantly reduce their body weight. As a result of the failure to implement this order, more than 100 officers were dismissed in 2017.

Private

Rahimov is married and has five children. He is considered a sponsor of sport and, as Minister of the Interior, fulfills numerous obligations in this area. Rahimov himself is a talented chess player . He has also written numerous poems that have been published in Tajikistan. Some of these poems were praises of the authoritarian ruling President Rahimov.
