Only one of the Ramna Stacks Fladda has a significant vegetation, mainly of grasses and based on peat - soil . The other islands in the group are essentially made of bare rock. There is a striking rock gate on Fladda .
The Ramna Stacks are an important breeding ground for various species of seabirds . Together with Gruney, they are therefore designated as both a nature reserve ( SSSI ) and a protected area under the EU Birds Directive (SPA) under the name Ramna Stacks and Gruney . Both also fall under the SSSI Uyea - North Roe Coast .
