The different- billed grove buttercup ( Ranunculus polyanthemoides , syn .: Ranunculus polyanthemos ssp. Polyanthemoides (Bor.) Ahlfvengren; R. serpens subsp. Polyanthemoides (Bor.) Kerguélen & Lambinon), also known as the polyanthemus-like buttercup , is a member of the Buttercup Family (Ranunculaceae).
Appearance
The different-billed grove buttercup is closely related to the multi-flowered grove buttercup ( Ranunculus polyanthemos ). It belongs to a difficult group of buttercups, some of which are difficult to separate from each other.
The various-billed grove buttercup, which is a herbaceous plant of several years, typically has an upright stem that is about 20 to 50 cm high. This is never prostrate (in contrast to the rooting grove buttercup ( Ranunculus serpens )) and therefore does not sprout rosettes of leaves.
The basal leaves are usually incised in three parts down to the base, but in contrast to those of R. polyanthemos, they are not deeply five-cut. The individual sections, which often overlap, are usually divided into three lobes. The stem leaves are usually deeply cut to the base of the stem.
The flower stalks are furrowed and hairy protruding. The flowers are bright yellow.
The approximately 1.5 mm long fruit beaks are slightly curved, but occasionally also straight and pointed. (Difference from the slit-leaved grove buttercup ( Ranunculus polyanthemophyllus )). They are usually much shorter than the rest of the nut.
The species is diploid and has a chromosome number of 2n = 16.
Distribution and location requirements
The general distribution of this species is still insufficiently researched. So far there have been finds from France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece, Sweden and Finland, but also from Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Hungary, the former Yugoslavia, Poland and Romania.
In Germany, Ranunculus polyanthemoides is apparently rare. There are mainly finds from the central area.
In Austria as in Switzerland, the distribution is largely unknown.
The different-billed grove buttercup grows in meadows and on the edges of forests and prefers possibly calcareous soils. In southern Germany it occurs on mesobrometes.
Possible confusion
The exact classification of the different-billed grove buttercup is partly controversial. While some authors regard it as a subspecies of the many-flowered grove buttercup ( Ranunculus polyanthemos ), it has recently been granted species status. The differentiation from Ranunculus polyanthemos is sometimes very difficult, which is made even more complicated by the appearance of hybrids.
