Raoul Richter
Raoul Hermann Michael Richter (born January 16, 1871 in Berlin , † May 14, 1912 in Wannsee ) was a German philosopher.
Life
Raoul Richter was a son of the painter Gustav Richter and his wife Cornelie , a daughter of the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer .
He had been friends with Harry Graf Kessler since he was a student. In 1893 he received his doctorate summa cum laude from Wilhelm Wundt in Leipzig with a thesis on Kant and Schopenhauer . After that he was initially without a permanent position. In 1898, Raoul Richter completed his habilitation, again in Leipzig, with a thesis on Spinoza's concept of will . In the winter semester of 1898/1899 he began to teach history of philosophy and practical philosophy at the same place.
Richter was one of the first to strive for the work of Friedrich Nietzsche . Right from the start, Richter was one of the critical friends and from 1908 on the board of directors of the Nietzsche Archive Foundation . Richter initiated this connection to Naumburg and Weimar as early as 1895. Johannes Volkelt and Wilhelm Wundt tried to promote Raoul Richter to a professorship. On September 22, 1904, Richter was finally made an extra-budgetary, extraordinary professor at the Philosophical Faculty in Leipzig due to his scientific achievements. Around 1910 a long-standing illness broke out again, so that Richter was forced to give up his apprenticeship.
Raoul Richter was with Lina Oppenheim (1872–1960), a daughter of the banker Benoit Oppenheim the Elder. Ä. (1842–1931), married. The couple had five children. Richter died in 1912 and was buried in the churchyard in Berlin-Wannsee .
