The Rappbode Auxiliary Dam is one of the two pre-dams of Rappbode reservoir . This is the core of the Rappbode dam system in the eastern Harz, which is operated by the dam operation of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and to which the Hasselvorperre and the Königshütte , Mandelholz and Wendefurth dams also belong.
The Rappbodevorsperre near Trautenstein is used together with the main barrier for the drinking water supply and flood protection . The Rappbode is dammed in the pre-lock . It has a 25 m high weight dam as a barrier structure.
The area around the Rappbodevorsperre is suitable for hiking . The east bank is decorated by numerous rocky cliffs. On the most important bank rock, where the dam makes a small bend today and the Rappbode earlier, there was once the Trageburg , which, like the not far away Susenburg, served to guard an old long-distance trade route.
