The Hasselvorsperre , also called Vorsperre Hassel , in the Harz is a pre-blocking of the Rappbodetalsperre near Hasselfelde in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt . The dam was built from 1956 to 1959. It consists of a dam , waterworks and reservoir . Its approximately 21.5 m high dam dams the Hassel to the approximately 25 ha large Hasselstausee . The pre- dam is used to supply drinking water and is part of the Saxony-Anhalt dam operation.
purpose
The purpose of the pre-barrier is the mechanical and biological pre-cleaning of the water before it flows into the main barrier. In the reservoir, the water comes to rest, so that foreign substances can settle. The drinking water can be taken from different heights and transferred through openings in the wall with locks.
Geographical location
The Hasselvorperre is located between the nearby Hasselfelde (district of Oberharz am Brocken ) in the southeast and the Hasselarm of the Rappbodestausees, which is located a little below its dam, of the northwestern expanding Rappbodestausees .

The barrier structure of the dam is located about 2.7 km northwest of Hasselfelde . On the northern third of the wall there is an operating building with the operating equipment.
Data
The straight gravity dam was built from 1956 to 1959. It is 21 m above the foundation level and a total of around 21.5 m high. The building crown is 141.3 m long and 2 m wide. The structure contains around 14,000 m³ of reinforced concrete . Its subsoil consists for the most part of greywacke and to a lesser extent of thinly splitting slate .
Reservoir
location
The Hasselstausee is located about 2 km northwest of Hasselfelde . It is located roughly in the middle between the Rabensteinen (approx. 510 m ) in the west and the Hoppelberg ( 507.5 m ) in the east. The dammed flowing water with the Rappbode tributary Hassel is the eastern of the two main tributaries of the Rappbodestausees; In addition, other small streams, such as the Sautal stream, flow into the reservoir.
Data
The reservoir is about 25 hectares. In south-north direction it extends - measured roughly along the reservoir center line - for around 2 km in length, and it is a maximum of around 400 m wide. It has around 1.47 million m³ of storage space and 1.64 million m³ of total storage space . Its water surface is 432.8 m above sea level and its catchment area is around 44.1 km².
Normally, the reservoir is constantly filled with water because it is not used for flood protection , and the adjustable water discharge prevents the river valleys from falling dry.
tourism
An approximately 5.6 km long circular hiking trail leads around the reservoir and over the dam. The Hasselvorsperre is included as No. 53 ( ⊙ ) in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin. Fishing in the reservoir is possible with a permit, swimming is prohibited.
