The Town Hall in Upper Swabia Pfaffenhausen , a market town in the district of Unterallgäu in Bavaria administrative district of Swabia , is under monument protection standing Town Hall from the 18th century.

location

The former town hall, now used as the “home” of the Friends of Pfaffenhausen, is located in the middle of the village on the main road (Bundesstraße 16), the connecting road to the district town of Mindelheim and the regional center of Memmingen , or to Krumbach (Swabia) .

history

The place has been mentioned as a market since 1360. Due to the dilapidation of the previous building, dated 1599 on a column, a new building was considered in the 18th century. The local master mason Ulrich Fendt made a crack in 1756 for a new building. This was carried out in 1758. According to a building inscription, in addition to Fendt, master mason Anton Klemmer and master carpenter Simon Schmid were also involved in the construction. The house used to have a so-called pillory in the form of a small round balcony on the northwest corner of the first floor. This was canceled in the 19th century. The facade was renovated in 1964.

Building description

The two-story saddle roof house has three to four axes. The main facade is the north gable side. Tuscan pilasters with small pieces of entablature are located at their corners, as well as in the middle and next to the corners of the long sides. The house also has a profiled eaves cornice and a gable cornice. There are two oval windows on the ground floor. In the middle of the main facade there is a large basket arch gate. The two door leaves are doubled and fitted with fittings. On the north gable there is an edge and profiled cornice. In its basement there are two narrow windows, in front of the upper floor, like a template, the square substructure of the tower with a rectangular panel and a profiled end cornice. The upper part of the tower is designed as an octagon and has arched openings on the main sides. It has a sturdy framework and a sheet-metal, bell-shaped hood. The south side is only decorated with corner pilasters.

The renewed facade painting is in Okker yellow on a white background. The frames around the upper floor windows are drilled. Furthermore, the oval windows and the gate have similar frame decorations. There are simple decorative paintings on the pilasters. Cornices can be seen between the floors. Above the north entrance there is a Solnhofer slab with a building inscription ERBAVET / IM IAHR DES HEREN / MDCCLVIII / By Chaspar Höcht and / Joseph Vogt bede burgerr / Maister dan von Ulrich finds / and Antoni Clemmer Maurer- / Maister sambt simon schmid / Zimer Maister alle from here / OAMDG.
