The Fürstenwalde Town Hall (alternatively also: Old Town Hall Fürstenwalde ) is a listed administrative building in the Brandenburg town of Fürstenwalde / Spree .

The town hall is located in the Mitte district on the corner of Am Markt and Rathausstrasse. It forms the northern end of the shopping street removed Mill Road.

history

The two-storey administration building was built around 1500 as a late Gothic brick building. Its tracery designed gables , the east hall with star vaults and the tower added in 1624 are worth seeing . It was rebuilt after being damaged in World War II . In the spring of 2011, extensive renovation work began in and on the building, and it had to be converted to meet modern technical requirements. In addition, the copper roof panels were renewed, floor coverings were replaced, an elevator was installed and barrier-free access and the sanitary facilities were created; the ballroom and the basement area were also redesigned. According to the construction project, the measures “served to secure the Old Town Hall as a public place of culture and communication.” The construction measures were completed in 2014.

With the exception of the registry office, the city administration is not located in the town hall, but in the nearby town hall center . She has rented space for an administrative center there until 2021. However, the meetings of the city council and its committees take place in the old town hall.

An art gallery has been permanently located in the old town hall since 1978 . The Rathausbräu brewery opened in the basement of the town hall at the end of December 2014 , and the private owner invested around 300,000 euros in equipping it, as well as a brewery museum. It revives the city's old brewing traditions and produces new Fürstenwalder beer as a show brewery.
