Rathausplatz (Hemmingen-Westerfeld)
The Rathausplatz is considered the center of the city of Hemmingen in the Hanover region . The on City Hall in the public space of Hemminger hamlet Westerfeld located resort with its numerous retail businesses has been repeatedly honored with prizes and forms with the surrounding residential buildings from the 1950s years a settlement "of great urban place".

The Rathausplatz was built between 1958 and 1962 according to plans by the architect Otto Dellemann and was considered exemplary for architecture and town planning at the time. The square formed a newly created center for around 400 newly built homes and 300 rental apartments. The new town center was flanked by a church, a new school building and a small shopping center with an Edeka market . The former town hall also housed the police and the post office.
This much-noticed and first so-called “demonstrative construction program” in Lower Saxony is one of eleven projects shown from Germany at the 1962 International Urban Development Exhibition in Paris in the year of completion .
As a result, the settlement around Rathausplatz was the winner in the national competition “ Citizens, it's about your community ” in 1966 . The plaque now adorns a wall of the town hall, which was newly built in 2004. In October 1972, the then Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt paid tribute to the achievements of the community on the stairs of the previous building of today's town hall .
The Leine Adult Education Center was temporarily located across from the new town hall .
The building complex framing the Hemmingen Rathausplatz with its comparatively small-scale structures has various owners, including the city of Hemmingen as the owner of several retail spaces. It is true that this makes redesigning or, for example, renovations of the ensemble less easy to carry out than if the property were only under the direction of a single owner. However, according to the mayor of Hemmingen, Claus Schacht , the advantages lie in municipal participation, for example in rents and the use of commercial spaces such as restaurants or retail .
At peak times, such as the weekly market held on Thursday mornings, the parking spaces around Rathausplatz are usually occupied. The request for a lawn area expressed by individual citizens had to be rejected due to the delivery options. The sealed area of the market square and meeting place was however loosened up with shady trees and a fountain .
