history

In 1410 the "Ruwe" forest near Raum was first mentioned. This forest, now called "der Rauen", belonged in 1554 partly to the Langenhennersdorf manor and partly to the Königstein wilderness. The settlement of Raum arose between this and the Beutwald at the beginning of the 19th century. Around 1800 the settlement was called "An den Raumwiesen". In 1812 Napoleon and his troops moved across the fields that bordered the area to Moscow . The main settlement period was between 1820 and 1840. A country inn opened in 1880, which is still used as a guesthouse today. In 2004 the last traditional bird shooting took place in Raum .

Since July 1, 1948, space has been part of the town of Bielatal and since 1994 of the municipality of Rosenthal-Bielatal . Raum has been an independent district of the municipality since 2014.

Brick factory room

In 1885/86 a modern brick factory was built on the southern slope of the Harthenberg . In 1897/98 a high chimney was built, which from now on was the landmark of the small town until it was demolished in 1994. Brick production had to be stopped in 1992. Since 2008, part of the area has been used as commercial space, including a car workshop, a metal construction company and a party location. The brickworks with the adjoining properties was assigned to the Raum district in 2014, previously the area belonged to the Hermsdorf district .

Infrastructure

State road 171 , which connects the towns of Bielatal and Markersbach , runs across Raum . District road 8741 runs from Bahra via Raum to Rosenthal .

It was planned that the A17 would lead past Raum and that there would even be an exit here. However, a more southerly route was chosen.

The Eisenach-Budapest long-distance hiking trail runs through Raum .

There is a bus stop in town that is served by the RVSOE .
