Athletic career

Haarseim first became known nationwide when he was accepted into the squad of the GDR junior national team in 1980 as a player for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . Between 1980 and 1981 he played ten international matches with the junior team, in which he was usually used as a right striker.

For the 1981/82 season, the 1.81 m long hair spike was nominated by 1. FC Lok for the squad for the junior league team. Although 1982/83 also intended for the junior league, Haarseim came in the second half of the season to his first appearances in the GDR league. After two games as a substitute, he was then in three league games from the start as a left winger on the field. Only when the long injured Andreas Bornschein was able to work again did Haarseim have to return to the junior team. When this was dissolved in the summer of 1983, Haarseim was initially named for the newly formed 2nd team of 1. FC Lok. As a substitute, however, he came at the beginning of the 1983/84 season in another five league games for use. In the local derby against Chemie Leipzig on matchday three, he shot the only top division goal of his career. Then he only played with the 2nd team in the third-class district league Leipzig.

After the end of the first half of the 1983/84 season, Haarseim moved to local rivals Chemie Leipzig, who were also represented in the league. There he was called up eight times in the 13 second round games of the Oberliga, but played only two games from the start. For the season 1984/85 he was in the league squad, but only played in the 2nd team. During the season, Haarseim left Chemistry Leipzig and joined the second-rate GDR league team Chemie Böhlen . After he had completed two point games and scored a goal there, he left the Leipzig region for good and played from 1985/86 to 1989/90 for the district league club Motor Eisenach .
