The Viticulture Museum in Spiez

The Viticulture and Local History Museum in Spiez , Canton of Bern , Switzerland , has been set up in a wine-growing house in the typical Simmental architectural style since 1986 . With its three buildings, the ensemble is a cultural asset of national importance with KGS NR. 9239 classified.

building

The farmhouse was built in 1728 for Hans Rebmann by one of the leading master carpenters of the early 18th century in the lower Simmen and Kandertal , Christen Linder. The brick basement served as a wine cellar and storage room; possibly also as a stable for small animals. Now a museum cooper's workshop has been set up there. The upper floors were used by the farming family as an apartment .

A built from the same Zimmermann 1720 memory is south of the residence. The two-storey block building stands on a brick base . The three-sided arcades are covered by a wide overhanging board shingle roof, which is weighted down with stones to protect against storm damage. The Spycher was used to store the harvested fruits and valuable goods of the rural household.

The third building is the Trott barn, called Trüel from the 18th century. A block structure was also built on the brick base, but of a different type. It stands on the edge of the property and contains a large grape press . The Trüel was acquired by the R.Huber-Regez family through the viticulture cooperative and given to the foundation. This is where the grapes from other Spiezer Bäuert winemakers were pressed. There is also an exhibition in the same building with equipment and tools for working in the vineyard and in the wine cellar.

Exhibitions

In the cellar, which is accessible from the outside, there is the originally preserved wine cellar and a workshop, which testifies to the work of the last Spiez barrel cooper. Historical furnishings and everyday objects are shown in the living rooms on the ground floor . There is also a historic kitchen with cookware . The wood stove is used for cooking and baking as part of action days.

On the upper floor of the main house there is a permanent exhibition on the local and local history as well as on viticulture topics. In Gaden floor temporary exhibitions are held each year; for example in 2020 on the Blümlisalp steamship , with lectures and guided tours. The museum offers thematic tours and the rental of rooms for all kinds of occasions.
