Rebecca Martin (* 1965/1966 in Saigon , Vietnam ) is an American opera, lied, concert and oratorio singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Rebecca Martin studied piano and singing in Indiana / USA . While still a student, she won first prize in the Young Artist competition and first prize in the Indiana Music Teachers Competition . From 1991 to 1994 she continued her singing studies with Julia Faulkner , Hanna Ludwig and the renowned Dresden singing teacher Karin Mitzscherling . Numerous engagements followed. She sang on the music stages in Santander and Hong Kong . In Germany she gave guest appearances at the Anhaltisches Theater , the State Theater Nuremberg and the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz . On the stages mentioned, Rebecca Martin sang the central roles of her subject, such as Carmen in the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet , Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni , Rosina in The Barber of Seville , Idamante in Idomeneo , Dorabella in Così fan tutte , the Poppea in The Coronation of Poppea , the Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (opera) , the Angelina in La Cenerentola (opera) , the Orlando in Orlando (Handel) u. a. m.

The mezzo-soprano is a popular song, concert and oratorio singer who has worked with conductors Karl-Friedrich Beringer , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Marek Janowski , Mariss Jansons , Riccardo Chailly and Ulf Schirmer , among others . Her repertoire includes works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Robert Schumann , Johann Sebastian Bach , Maurice Ravel , Paul Hindemith , to name just a few of the many. She guested u. a. at the Rheingau Music Festival , the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival , the Leipzig Bach Festival , the Berlin Philharmonic , the Leipzig Gewandhaus or the Dresden Frauenkirche . Particularly noteworthy are her oratorio evenings with the Windsbach boys 'choir , some of which exist on recordings, and the St. Thomas' choir .

Rebecca Martin has been teaching at the Nuremberg University of Music since 2004 .
