Rebel MC (Michael West, born August 27, 1965 in Tottenham , London ) is a British singer , rapper and producer , who is also known under the names Conquering Lion , Congo Natty , Blackstar , Tribe of Issachar , X Project and Ras Project .

Career

Rebel MC had their first hits in 1989 together with Double Trouble . The Single Just Keep Rockin ' became a Top 20 hit in the UK , Street Tuff placed himself in Europe in the charts . After that, the Londoner focused on his solo career and initially published pop rap . In 1991 he changed his style and mixed critical texts with danceable beats . The corresponding LP was called Black Meaning Good and made Michael West a pioneer of the British jungle and, indirectly, of drum and bass . The new style was also featured on the 1992 singles Rich Ah Getting Richer and Humanity , both of which hit the UK charts.

In the following years West devoted himself to his other projects, e.g. B. Conquering Lion . From 2004 the musician released various singles, EPs and albums as Rebel MC.
