Recreation Ground (also called The Rec ; literal translation: recreation ground ) is a stadium in the English city of Bath . It stands north of the city center directly on the banks of the Avon River and seats 14,000. Built in 1880, the stadium is primarily used for rugby union and is the home of Bath Rugby . In summer, the temporary east stand is dismantled to make space for cricket . This cricket pitch is mostly used for local games, but is also used twice a year by the Somerset County Cricket Club as part of the County Championship .
