history

The original Red Robin was on the corner of Fuhrman and Eastlake Avenues E. in Seattle , at the south end of University Bridge . The building dates from 1940 and was initially called Sam's Tavern . The owner, Sam, sang in a barbershop quartet. His favorite song was When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin 'Along . He liked the song so much that he eventually renamed his establishment Sam's Red Robin . In 1969, local restaurant entrepreneur Gerry Kingen bought the restaurant and expanded it. He left out the Sams in the name and just called the restaurant Red Robin . The first restaurant was 110 square meters. It was a popular meeting place for University of Washington students . Kingen continued to run the restaurant as a tavern for a few years. He later added hamburgers to his menu.

In 1979, two Red Robin regulars, Michael and Steve Snyder, decided to open their own Red Robin restaurant in Yakima . The Snyder Group Company became Red Robin's first franchisee . 1980 opened a restaurant in Portland . In 1983 the chain got a mascot named Red . Two years later, in 1985, the Seattle headquarters moved to the suburbs after Kingen moved to Denver and acquired a majority stake in Red Robin Corp. had sold to Skylark Corporation . With marginal success and poor financial performance under the Skylark management, Kingen, then a minority owner, returned to the leadership of Red Robin in 1995. Together with Michael Snyder, he led the company back into profitability. In 2000 the company opened its 150th restaurant. Michael Snyder eventually took over a newly founded company as Chairman, CEO and President of Red Robin Gourmet Burgers . Snyder went public with the company in 2002.

The original Red Robin restaurant was closed on March 21, 2010 due to excessive maintenance costs.

marketing

In early January 2013 it became known that a pregnant woman did not have to pay anything for her meal in a Red Robin restaurant. Surprises of this kind are part of the company's philosophy, which aims to make guests happy through unexpected gestures and special promotions. Some of these unexpected gestures by guests have been listed on the company's website.
