Reformed Church (Leipzig)
The Reformed Church in Leipzig is the church of the Reformed Congregation .
history
Since 1700 religious refugees from France, the Huguenots , formed their own parish. As her first church, she built a prayer room in the office building in 1766, which was redesigned in 1841.
The community grew over time due to immigration from other areas. In the years 1896–1899 a new church with an attached preacher's house was built according to a design by Leipzig architects Georg Weidenbach and Richard Tschammer . The entire complex is considered the first example of a uniform community building. He was awarded a first prize at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 .
The neo-renaissance church building with the striking 73 meter high tower is located on Tröndlinring north of the historic city center. The church was consecrated on March 12, 1899. It was damaged during the heavy air raids on Leipzig on December 4, 1943, and the reconstruction took until 1969.
From October 2, 1989, prayers for peace were held in the Reformed Church . The film recordings made by Aram Radomski and Siegbert Schefke on October 9, 1989 from the tower of the church of the Monday demonstration were broadcast the next day by the Tagesschau .
1992–1996 the church was extensively renovated.
