The Reformed Church in Brail on the border between Upper and Lower Engadine is a Protestant - Reformed church under the monument of the canton of Grisons . Coming from Cinuos-chel, it is on the left-hand side of the hillside immediately after entering the village, so that the portal can only be reached via a wooden staircase. There is a cemetery .

history

The first church was built in 1415; it was first mentioned in a document in 1499. It belonged to the Zernez chaplain and was reformed in 1553. The church in its current form dates from around 1650. Between 1743 and 1834 it was looked after by its own pastor, and Zernez has been responsible since then. It was renovated for the last time in 1984/86.

Furnishing

The few dozen people comprehensive church has medieval buildings and originally stood under the patronage of the Apostle Thomas (in Romansh idiom turkey Tumesch, so Baselgia (church) San Tumesch ). The tower with a one-story bell house has a tent , the nave has a gable and a hipped roof over the choir .

The interior of the church, which has been redesigned in Baroque style, is dominated by a pulpit without a sound cover , which closes the choir , which is separated from the nave by a round arch , and a central baptismal font , on which the Last Supper is celebrated according to the Reformed Graubünden custom . In the choir there is a sacrament house from the pre-Reformation period.

Church organization

Brail forms a parish with Zernez and is in a pastoral community with Susch . The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden leads Brail within the Colloquium VIII Engiadina Bassa (= Lower Engadine) - Val Müstair , although the village itself belongs to the Upper Engadin in terms of language and culture .
