The Reformed Church of Hütten is a late Classicist Zurich country church in Hütten ZH .

history

A St. Jacob's Chapel, which has existed since the Middle Ages , was destroyed in the First Villmerger War in 1656. A new building was then built in 1668, although Hütten's formal separation from the Wädenswil parish did not take place until 1752. From 1844 thought was given to demolishing the dilapidated church in favor of a new building. The current church was finally built in the years 1855–56 according to plans by Johann Caspar Wolff . Wolff was the state building inspector of Zurich and had a special relationship with Hütten due to the parish activities of his uncle Hans Konrad Wolf, who died in 1853 .

Exterior

A front tower with vestibule, clock tower and tent roof is in front of the church. The facades are in the classicist style, with the buttresses in the corners and the four-pass and six-pass windows that complement the large arched windows appearing more neo-Gothic . In addition to the main portal in the tower, there is a side portal next to the rectory . In 1890, the Mäder company from Andelfingen ZH delivered today's clockwork.

The chime, cast in 1856, includes four bells:

  • Big bell , 996 kg, g sharp.
  • Prayer bell , 521 kg, fis.
  • Funeral bell , 283 kg, dis.
  • Small bell , 126 kg, cis.

inner space

Inside, the building presents itself as a simple hall church with a retracted rectangular choir . The walls are adorned with decorative paintings, the flat ceiling with subtle stucco elements . There are two quotes from the Bible in Gothic script on the wall of the choir arch . They proclaim: "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." ( Acts 16,31  LUT ) and «Rejoice in the Lord always. The Lord is my shepherd. " ( Phil 4,4  LUT ).

The neo-Gothic colored glass window with a representation of Christ from 1872 comes from Georg Röttinger, a son of Johann Jakob Röttinger . Below the Christ figure there is a banner with the inscription "I am the resurrection and the life" ( Jn 11,25  LUT ). The baroque font from 1752, which is located in front of the choir arch, has been preserved from the previous church . The pulpit on the choir arch wall was lowered in the course of the interior renovation in 1953 and its ornaments and the sound cover were stripped. The Kuhn- organ from 1939 stands on a small back gallery and comes from the church Ottenbach ZH . It was adapted to contemporary tastes in the course of the organ movement and therefore no longer has intact pipe material.
