Hirzel Church

The Reformed Church of Hirzel is a baroque country church in the canton of Zurich .

history

With the construction of today's church in 1620, the parish of Hirzel became independent from Horgen . The establishment of its own parish was due on the one hand to the population growth, on the other hand the proximity to the Catholic canton of Zug and the Anabaptist community in Hirzel played a role: the new church was intended to strengthen the presence of the Reformed faith.

From 1826 to 1840, the poet Salomon Tobler held the pastorate in Hirzel.

building

inner space

The hall church with a slightly raised polygonal choir was built in 1616–1618 according to plans by A. Ziegler. The tower with a pointed helmet connects to the side. On the outside of the church there are valuable epitaphs from pastors from the 18th and 19th centuries. The gallery can be reached via a sign with a steep monopitch roof . The polygonal pulpit from 1617 is a valuable testimony to early baroque inlay art . Recent are the baptismal font of Charlotte Germann-Jahn of 1972, the Kuhn - organ from 1973. The stained glass windows of the Taizé brothers make parables from the Gospel of Matthew is.
