Dikhil or Dichil ( Arabic دخيل, DMG Diḫīl ) is a region in southwestern Djibouti . Its main town is the city of the same name, Dikhil . Other larger cities in the region are Ela , Galafi and Yoboki .
Dikhil was previously the capital of the Sultanate of Goba'ad. The region, still known as Gobad (Goba'ad) at the time of French colonial rule, borders in the north on the Tadjoura region , in the west and south on Ethiopia and in the east on the regions Ali Sabieh and Arta . The latter region was formed in 2002 from the eastern part of Dikhils (1400 km² on the Gulf of Tadjoura ) and the surrounding area in the west and south of Djibouti City (400 km²).
In Dikhil there is part of the Abbe Lake , which also extends to Ethiopian territory.
