The regional ring is a road project in Vienna and Lower Austria . It will consist of a total of six motorways and expressways in the vicinity of Vienna and thus form a ring motorway around the city, which extends in the west to the Lower Austrian capital St. Pölten .

The entire regional ring covers around 195 km, of which around 175 km have already been completed. The total costs are estimated at around 3.2 billion euros. When completed, the ring would become the second longest motorway ring in Europe after Berlin's federal motorway 10 (196 km) and ahead of London's M25 (188 km).

Project status

Most of the regional ring road, the north, south and west bypasses around Vienna have already been completed. The last stretch of the line completed to date, the Traismauer Danube Bridge , was opened in 2010.

The construction of the last section, the eastern bypass, between Schwechat and Süßenbrunn is currently being planned. The start of construction for the Groß-Enzersdorf –Süßenbrunn section was planned for 2017, the Danube and Lobau crossing between Groß-Enzersdorf and Schwechat should be built from 2018. The completion of the entire regional ring is Template: future / in 5 yearsplanned for 2025 .

The aim of the regional ring is to shift through traffic from the Viennese city motorways, especially the south- east bypass (A23), to the motorway ring.
