The Danube bridge Traismauer (also called St. Georgsbrücke ) is the extension of the Krems expressway S33 over the Danube . It connects the Stockerau expressway S5 from the Jettsdorf junction in the north with the existing route of the S33 in the direction of St. Pölten at the Traismauer junction in the south. The bridge crosses the Danube at river kilometer 1991.35 in the dam area of the Altenwörth power plant .

This bridge was named Donaubrücke St. Georg in memory of the St. Georgen Monastery, which was founded here and which moved to Herzogenburg 130 years later as the Herzogenburg Monastery .

meaning

With the Danube Bridge , an axis from the Weinviertel north of the Danube in the direction of St. Pölten was created in accordance with the motorway standard , eliminating the need for a detour via Krems .

In addition to a reduction in travel time between Stockerau and Sankt Pölten, the Tullner Straße (B19), which connects Tulln and St. Christophen on the West Autobahn (A1), will also be relieved by the new Danube bridge and the north-west traffic in the greater Vienna area the south- east bypass (A23) and the Vienna outer ring motorway (A21) have been relocated to the S5 / S33 axis, making the Danube bridge an important part of the regional ring around Vienna.

The Danube bridge Traismauer was officially opened on October 30, 2010 by Erwin Pröll , Asfinag board member Alois Schedl and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport Herbert Kasser . The Danube bridge was opened to traffic the next day and the cycle path and green areas were completed by mid-2011.

With the opening of the Danube Bridge St. Georg, traffic bans for trucks over 3.5 tons came into force on Wiener Straße (B1), Tullner Straße (B19) and Traismaurer Straße (B43) in order to prevent transit traffic through the towns and to prevent toll refugees.

Approach bridges

The two approach bridges are the largest bridge objects next to the main bridge. The northern foreland bridge over the Danube floodplains has a length of 449 m, making it the largest object. It consists of thirteen fields with a standard span of 35 m, with the exception of the field over the Krems , which is 45 m. The approach bridge on the south side of the Danube runs over ten fields with a maximum span of 35 m and is 323 m long.

The foundation of the two bridges is carried out on large bored piles, overlying pile grids and round supports. A pile grid consists of ten bored piles and is secured with scour protection up to the top of the ground.

Power bridge

The river bridge has a length of 356 m. It has two dividers, which act as abutments for the river bridge and as a repository for the approach bridges, as well as two river piers. The river piers were erected using the construction method used for the first time in Austria with prefabricated pillar base stages. The pillar is concreted to the final height away from the pillar location between two ships and then lowered to the pillar position.

criticism

During the official proceedings , a citizens' initiative criticized the fact that the bridge had been cut up in the Natura2000 area and built in an air rehabilitation area .
