Rehberg is a district of the municipality of Grainet in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau . Until 1971 it formed an independent municipality.

Rehberg is located in the Bavarian Forest about two kilometers west of Grainet.

history

Rehberg was founded in 1500. In 1538/1539 Rechperg already had 14 fiefdoms (estates). It formed an executive committee and belonged to the Wolfstein nursing court in the Passau monastery . According to the land register of 1788, the place consisted of 17 properties.

The municipality Rehberg was formed from the tax district of the same name in 1811. During the revision in the course of the edict of 1818 , the hamlet of Oberseilberg received it from the Hinterschmiding community , while Kaining ceded it to the Hinterschmiding community, Promau and Winkelbrunn to the Ort community. The community Rehberg thus consisted of the following districts: Oberseilberg, Ohmühle, Rehberg and Unterseilberg .

As part of the regional reform , the municipality of Rehberg was dissolved with effect from April 1, 1971 and incorporated into the municipality of Grainet. In the competition Our village should become more beautiful , Rehberg was voted the most beautiful village in Bavaria in 1989 and received the gold medal at the state level. It had 210 residents in 1987 and 243 in 2014.

Attractions

  • Rehberg rock painting. The 3.5 meter long and one meter high rock painting represents an elongated site built around a central square. It was made by an unknown painter and was probably created between the 17th and 19th centuries.
  • Old Chapel to the Sorrowful Mother of God . The shingled timber structure from the second half of the 19th century was moved here in 1960.
  • New chapel for Our Lady of Sorrows . It was built in 1963/1964.

  • Schützenverein Birkenwald Rehberg e. V. The foundation goes back to the year 1957.
  • Rehberg volunteer fire department. It was founded on December 26, 1883.
