Reichlin von Meldegg (noble family)
Reichlin von Meldegg is the name of a south German baronial noble family.
Origin and history
The progenitor of this originally bourgeois German aristocratic family is the doctor Joß Richli (Jodocus Reichlin), a citizen of Constance , who died in Constance in 1409 and who took over the name and coat of arms from Hans von Meldegg, who came from St. Gallen , the last of his family.
The sex first spread in the Lake Constance area and belonged to the patriciate of the imperial city of Überlingen . On July 28, 1465, Emperor Friedrich III. the teacher of pharmacology Andreas Reichlin in the hereditary imperial nobility . On September 27, 1530, Emperor Karl V issued Christoph Reichle another letter of nobility with von Meldegg and at the same time confirmed the family coat of arms.
Sebastian Reichlin von Meldegg received Fellheim in 1555 as a Kemptisches Fief and built Fellheim Castle in 1557 . The family held the manor there until 1848 and lived in the castle until 1923.
The family spread over southern Germany and to Austria. On July 8, 1813, the family in Bavaria was enrolled as Reichlin von Meldegg in the baron class because of the baron class that has been documented since 1652 and 1680. In Württemberg , too , the family was registered with the baron class of the knightly nobility. In Austria the family bore the name Freiherr von Rechlien-Meldegg .
Xaver Ignaz Freiherr von Reichlin-Meldegg, Prince Thurn und Taxis'scher Court Marshal , built the Höfling Castle near Regensburg in the 18th century . His alliance coat of arms can still be found in the stairwell or in the large salon on the first floor. Since the construction of the baroque palace swallowed up the baron's fortune, he sold it to Maria Anna Countess von Palm in 1775.
