The Reichsbahndirektion Dresden (abbreviated as Rbd Dresden ) was an administrative district of the Deutsche Reichsbahn . It administered all railway lines in the state of Saxony , the only exception being the area around Leipzig, which belonged to the Reichsbahndirektion Halle Reichsbahnamt Leipzig.

history

In Dresden on August 1, 1848 the "Royal Direction of the Saxon-Bohemian State Railways " was founded, which was merged with the Leipzig Directorate on July 1, 1869 to form the "Royal General Direction of the Saxon State Railways ". After the abolition of the monarchy in November 1918, the railway administration referred to itself as the "General Directorate of the Saxon State Railways", since 1922 as the Reichsbahndirektion Dresden (Rbd).

On January 31, 1929, the administrative structure of the RBD Dresden was fundamentally changed and adapted to that of the usual Reichsbahndirectors . The area of the Rbd Dresden extended over the area of the state of Saxony with the exception of the Leipzig area, which was assigned to the Rbd Halle since October 1, 1934 .

After the Sudetenland was annexed in October 1938, the Rbd Dresden also took over all Sudeten German railway lines between Karlsbad and Reichenberg including the railway depots located there on October 10th .

On May 14, 1945, the Dresden Railway Directorate resumed its activities. The North Bohemian lines and depots were returned to ČSD . The routes in West Saxony, which had been occupied by US forces in April 1945, were administered by the Zwickau Reich Railway Directorate established on May 27, 1945 , but which only existed for 1 12  months. With the withdrawal of the Americans in accordance with the agreements of the Yalta Conference , on July 5, 1945, the Rbd Zwickau was again attached to Dresden.

On April 1, 1949, all private and small railways were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , although there were only a few non-state railways in the Kingdom of Saxony, in contrast to other areas of the GDR, due to the state-promoted railway construction. In the spring of 1955, the structure of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was redistributed. The Gera division was taken over by the Rbd Erfurt , in return the Bautzen division was transferred to the newly founded Rbd Cottbus . The allocation of the routes around Gera was reversed in 1976.

On October 15, 1990 the Rbd Cottbus was dissolved again and the routes around Bautzen were again administered by the Rbd Dresden. In the course of the railway reform decided at the beginning of the 1990s, the Rbd Dresden was dissolved on January 1, 1994 and divided among the newly created regional divisions of Deutsche Bahn AG.

Seat

From 1869 to 1898 the general management was located in the building of the Bohemian train station . As part of the redesign of the railway systems in Dresden, a new management building was erected at Wiener Straße 4 . The move into these buildings took place in 1898. During the bombing of Dresden in 1945, these buildings were completely destroyed. In the period from 1945 to 1948 the management moved into the building at Hansastraße 4. From 1948 to 1993 the Reichsbahndirektion had its headquarters in the former building of the state farmers' association in Saxony at Ammonstraße 8 in Dresden. The extension at Wiener Straße 5b was built in the 1930s as a branch of the Dresden Reichsbahndirektion. Since the destruction during the air raids on Dresden could be removed quickly, it was used as such again afterwards.
