The Reichsbahnerholungsheim is a listed building on the beach promenade in Lubmin in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania .

history

The building was built around 1907 under the direction of the Greifswald master mason Wendt , who was planning a villa forest and lake . After its preliminary completion in 1908, he sold the structure to the railway association in Berlin . For two more years, extensions, such as the construction of a dining room, were made to the building until the opening could be celebrated in May 1910. In the 1920s, the owners fought with the community about access to the beach, which until then had been divided into a separate area for the ladies' pool (west of the pier) and the men’s pool (east of the pier). In 1926 a children's rest home was built for children in the immediate vicinity . During the National Socialist era , the building remained largely unchanged, only the parapet on the front garden was filled with cement . In 1936 the house was renovated and central heating was installed . At the same time, a balcony that stretched over two floors on the beach side was torn down . After the Second World War , a military hospital was set up , later resettlers were quartered there until 1952. Shortly afterwards it was named after the German communist Philipp Müller and used by the FDGB . After the fall of the Wall , the building has been empty since 2014.

architecture

The building is covered with a simple, white plaster. Red bricks on the gable and on the windows trace the contours of the building and give the building an appearance that comes close to that of a castle. Wide, wooden stairs lead over the dunes to the beach. At the time of construction, the wastewater from the building ran into the Greifswalder Bodden a few meters away .
