The Reiling group of companies is a German family-run recycling company based in Harsewinkel in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Reiling group of companies has been active in the disposal and recycling industry since the beginning of recycling and, according to its own statements, is a leader in the processing of waste glass . Other areas of activity are the processing of PET bottles, the collection and processing of wood and paper as well as municipal services, city cleaning and the destruction of files and data carriers .

In 2017, the company employed around 600 people at 12 German and four international locations in Poland , Denmark and Sweden .

history

The Reiling company was founded in Gütersloh in 1957 by Bernhard Reiling . The Reiling family in Wiedenbrück had been involved in raw materials trading since 1900 . As a one-man business , Bernhard Reiling Senior collected used glass from commercial operations with flat glass processing and from the beverage industry in the 1960s . He sold the material to the hollow glass manufacturers . In 1968, Bernhard Reiling Senior moved the business from Gütersloh to Marienfeld and began processing waste glass and expanded the glass business to include the collection and processing of laminated and mixed glasses.

In 1970, the Reiling company set up the first waste glass collection container in Gütersloh, into which the citizens could throw one-way glasses. Soon the company Reiling expanded a container network regionally and also nationwide.

In 1984, Bernhard Reiling, the current owner of the recycling company, took over the company's shares. In the period that followed, the range of services and company activities were expanded. Further business areas such as plastic, wood and paper recycling as well as municipal services and the destruction of files and data carriers were added in the following years.

In 2015, the Reiling company in Naestved , Denmark, invested in a recycling plant in the “Ressource City” industrial park there. The processing plant for flat and hollow glass was developed by Reiling's own plant engineering company. In southern Germany, the Reiling company is planning to build a processing plant for PET recycling.

Performance profile

The Reiling group of companies works for industry , municipalities, trade, commerce and the dual systems . In the 2000s, Reiling significantly expanded its recycling management . The company covers the collection, transport and processing through to the delivery of recyclates. The collected recyclable materials are processed in sorting and recycling systems and made available to industry as secondary raw materials . Approx. 170 vehicles are used to collect and transport recyclable materials.

Plant engineering

As part of a joint development with two US companies, Reiling has  further developed X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) so that the glass ceramics  and  pieces of lead glass contained in waste glass can be   online, i.e. H. can be identified and discharged in the mass flow during processing by means of X-ray fluorescence analysis.

Contamination by "glass-like contaminants" in waste glass is a core problem in the glass-producing industry and repeatedly causes serious disruptions in glass production. Reiling has recognized that these contaminants can be identified quickly using X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF). For several years, handheld XRF analyzers have therefore been used in incoming material inspection.

With its in-house plant construction and its own processing methods and techniques, Reiling opened up new possibilities in recycling and optimized the processing steps in-house. Research and development also play a key role in everyday business. Together with research institutions, Reiling is researching further possibilities in recycling, for example “The recycling of PV modules ”.
