Reimar v. Karstedt ( Latinized Reimarus Karstede , also Reimer v. Karstedt ), (* approx. 1560 in Kaltenhof , now Karstädt municipality in Prignitz ; † September 13, 1618 in Havelberg ) was a German lawyer and dean of the Havelberg Cathedral , perhaps also the state director of Prignitz.

Life

origin

The von Karstedt family is one of the oldest noble families in the Mark Brandenburg region . The family was first mentioned in a document in 1271 with Reinoldus de Karstede , and its uninterrupted line of lineages began around 1550 with Valentin von Karstedt on Kaltenhof (Westprignitz) . The parents of Reimar v. Karstedt were the Magdeburg captain to Wolmirstedt Joachim von Karstedt (of age 1548), who was Margaretha v. Winterfeld († 1581) had married.

Career

After finishing school he attended Rostock University from November 1577.

From 1581 he attended the universities in Strasbourg and Zurich (from 1584) and from December 31, 1585 the University of Helmstedt . He completed his legal studies with a disputation on sales law, to which Prof. Heinrich Meibom (1555–1625) wrote the foreword.

Karstedt was co-author of a funeral pamphlet for Hermann von Kotze, who died in Strasbourg in 1581 at a young age (adolescens). Melchior Junius (the elder) from Wittenberg , rector of the University of Strasbourg, wrote the "consolation letter", while some friends, including Karstedt, the historian, writer and poet, the aforementioned Prof. Heinrich Meibom (1555-1625) Lemgo, Louis de LaHaye and Joachim Winterfeld belonged, wrote Epicedien . Karstedt paid tribute to the deceased in his funeral poem as a friend who was more than a brother to him ( O mihi plus fratris semper having loco ).

During and after completing his studies, Karstedt apparently worked as court master for the sons of Duke Otto II of Braunschweig-Lüneburg (Harburg) (1528–1603). His son Wilhelm August (1564–1642) undertook a cavalier tour to France and England in 1582 and then went with his brothers to the University of Helmstedt . In 1594 he went on trips again, which took him all over Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Livonia and Denmark.

In 1601, after the resignation of canon Johann von Klöden , Karstedt was accepted into the cathedral chapter in Havelberg . After the death of the dean Matthäus Lüdtke in 1608, Karstedt succeeded him as dean by electing the cathedral chapter and led the dean's office until September 13, 1618, when he left with his death. According to Brusche's genealogy, Karstedt is said to have been the regional director of Prignitz. But there is no evidence of this.

family

Reimar v. Karstedt's first marriage was Sophie Hedwig vd Streithorst, the daughter of the couple Christian vd Streithorst auf Rottorf and Schliestedt and Eva v. Samptife. His wife died on July 6th, 1604. Her tombstone is in the Havelberg Cathedral. The following children emerged from the first marriage:

  • Maria (married to Otto Brandt von Lindau auf Hohenziatz ), Principality of Anhalt, Lehnsmarschall and Landdrost zu Jever.
  • Margarete (married to Philipp v. Rohr),
  • Joachim Christoph (matriculated at the University of Frankfurt an der Oder 1613, University of Jena 1614),
  • Johann Julius († February 1641),
  • Reimar († March 3, 1650), senior and canon of the cathedral monastery Havelberg,
  • Alexander Ludwig,
  • George Dietrich (matriculated at the University of Frankfurt an der Oder 1615).

In his second marriage he married Anna vd Weyde, the daughter of Gabriel vd Weyde auf Gantikow , who was married to Otto von Rohr from Holzhausen in her first marriage.

Karstedt was the guardian of the future mayor of Stendal Germanus Luidtke (1592–1672), whose father, the canon of Havelberg Lucas Luidtke , had died in 1596. At first, grandfather Matthäus Ludecus , dean in Havelberg, was guardian until his death in 1606. When Karstedt succeeded Ludecus as dean in 1607, he took over the guardianship and ensured a good upbringing and education from Luidtke, who thanked him with a dedication in his academic disputation after completing his studies. He referred to Karstedt as his "guardian" and "patron" (tutor ac promoter).
