Reiner Marcowitz

Reiner Marcowitz (* 1960 in Rheydt ) is a German historian . He is professor for German Studies at the Université de Lorraine .

Life

Reiner Marcowitz studied history and German at the University of Cologne . In 1992, when Andreas Hillgruber proposed his dissertation and was supervised by Leo Haupts after his death , Option for Paris ?. Union parties, SPD and Charles de Gaulle 1958–1969 as Dr. phil. PhD. Then he was a research assistant at the Institute for History at the TU Dresden . In 1999 he completed his habilitation with the work Superpower on Probation , supervised by Reiner Pommerin . France's position in the European system of power 1814–52 . He became a private lecturer in modern and contemporary history, a senior research assistant and finally a university lecturer there. In 2005 he was a Junior Fellow at the Collegium Pontes in Görlitz and in 2006 a visiting scholar at the German Historical Institute Paris (DHIP).

Since 2007 he has been Professor of German State Studies at the Université Paul Verlaine Metz (since 2012: Université de Lorraine ). There he heads a trinational, interdisciplinary master’s course and is responsible for the doctoral program "Interculturalité des littératures, des médias et des organizations". He also teaches at the Europacampus of the Institut d'études politiques de Paris in Nancy. His main research interests are the German and French history of the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of Franco-German relations and European integration as well as the effects of Americanization, Europeanization and globalization.

Reiner Marcowitz has been co-director of the Département d'études franco-allemandes since 2008; From 2010 to 2018 he also headed the Center d'études germaniques interculturelles de Lorraine (CEGIL), the research institute of the Germany specialists at the Université de Lorraine. He is also a member of the Franco-German Historians Committee (from 2008 to 2012 board member), the German Society for Foreign Policy and the Association of Historians in Germany . In 2019 he was appointed to the Conseil national des universités.
