Reiner Nagel (born March 13, 1959 in Remscheid ) is a German architect and urban planner and has been Chairman of the Board of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture in Potsdam since 2013 .

Life

After studying architecture in Hanover, from 1986, Nagel initially worked in various functions at the district and senate level for the city of Hamburg, most recently from 1998 in the management of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH. In 2005, he moved to the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment as head of department for urban development, urban and open space planning. Here he was responsible for several urban development plans and projects, such as the development of the Europacity at Berlin Central Station, the 2017 International Garden Exhibition , the subsequent use of Tegel Airport and the development of the current Berlin 2030 urban development concept. Reiner Nagel has been Chairman of the Board of the Federal Building Culture Foundation in Potsdam since May 1, 2013 .

Reiner Nagel is a member of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning and the Association of German Architects as well as the National Urban Development Policy Board of Trustees and he is a lecturer at the TU Berlin in the field of urban design.

As chairman of the board of the Bundesstiftung Baukultur, Reiner Nagel expresses himself in guest contributions and interviews on discussions about society as a whole, for example on the housing shortage, public participation or power lines, but also on the future of single-family home areas. In this function he is also active as a judge in architecture competitions, moderator and speaker.
