Reiner Zimmer (2017)

Reiner Zimmer (born December 14, 1964 in Heusweiler ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the Saarland state parliament ( MdL ) since April 25, 2017 .

Live and act

After training as a mining mechanic at Saarbergwerke (1982 to 1984), Zimmer worked in the Luisenthal mine and between 1988 and 1991 completed a degree in mining at the Saar Mining College , from which he graduated as a qualified mining engineer (FH). Before he moved into the state parliament, Zimmer was an employee of RAG Aktiengesellschaft and, as a fire protection, explosion protection and weather engineer, was responsible for technical operational safety in the Saar mine . In December 2018 he was awarded the Gold Mine Rescue Decoration for his many years of voluntary work in mine rescue .

In 1997 Zimmer joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He is a board member of the Wahlschied local association (since 2001), the Heusweiler community association (since 2006) and the Saarbrücken-Land district association (since 2014). In addition, Zimmer has been a member of the Heusweiler municipal council since 2007 and has been the mayor of Wahlschied since 2009 . In the state elections in Saarland on March 26, 2017, Zimmer took third place for the SPD on the constituency list of the Saarbrücken constituency , which enabled him to become a member of the 16th state parliament of Saarland . Zimmer is chairman of the committee for justice, constitutional and legal issues as well as electoral review and is also a member of the following standing committees (as of January 2019):

  • Science, Research and Technology Committee
  • Committee on Education, Culture and the Media
  • Committee on Economy, Labor, Energy and Transport
  • Mine Safety and Post-Mining Committee

Zimmer has been a member of IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE) since 1982 , is involved in the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) and the party's internal working group for employee issues (AfA). He is married and has two children.
