from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reinhard Dörner (born March 14, 1961 in Wiesbaden ) is a German physicist .

Life

Dörner attended the Elly-Heuss-Gymnasium in Wiesbaden until 1981 . He then studied physics and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main and Aachen . In 1988 Dörner finished his diploma studies in physics and obtained his doctorate in 1991 on the subject of "Dynamics of single and double ionization of helium in rapid proton collisions". After completing his doctorate, he conducted research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 1995 to 1998 as a Feodor Lynen Fellow and later as a fellow of the German Research Foundation . In 1998 Dörner completed his habilitation on the subject of "Impulse Space Imaging of Atomic Multi-Particle Reaction Dynamics" and subsequently became visiting professor for physics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and was a scholarship holder within the framework of the Heisenberg program of the German Research Foundation . In 2002 he received a call from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and has been Professor of Experimental Atomic Physics there ever since .

Dörner is married and has a daughter.

Scientific focus

Dörner works in the field of experimental atomic and molecular physics . In particular, he investigates the dynamic relationships between electrons and nuclei through ion / atom collisions and the use of synchrotron radiation and strong laser fields .

Along with Horst Schmidt-Böcking and Joachim Ullrich, Dörner is one of the co-founders of the Cold Target Recoil Ion Momentum Spectroscopy (COLTRIMS) measurement method, which allows the investigation of atomic many-body dynamics through the coincident measurement of reaction fragments . The COLTRIMS technique is often referred to as a reaction microscope . In 2015 he and Robert Moshammer received the Robert Wichard Pohl Prize of the German Physical Society for his contributions to the development of this measurement method .
