Reinhard Giebel
Reinhard Giebel (born September 29, 1939 in Göttingen ; † March 8, 2020 in Wuppertal ) was a German jazz musician ( piano ) and writer.
Live and act
Giebel came from a musical family. His father made sure that he received classical piano lessons as a child. His father played the violin and was manager of a dance orchestra, in which he played the clarinet, saxophone and accordion, also piano, and had his first appearances. Initially influenced in jazz by George Shearing , he co-founded the Gunter Hampel Quintet in 1957 , to which he belonged until 1962; there he played all over Europe with musicians such as Olaf Kübler , Werner Lüdi , Herbert Joos and Buschi Niebergall , but also with Long John Baldry and Hajo Lange . After studying language in Saarbrücken (1963–68), he worked in Wuppertal as an interpreter and teacher.
Giebel toured nationwide in the 1970s and 1980s with the Duo Giebel-Nett , which he formed with saxophonist Dieter Nett. With him he recorded four albums. He also worked as a jazz critic for the Westdeutsche Zeitung . Later he occasionally appeared as a solo pianist and created radio plays and theater music. Since 2011 he has published fiction books at NordparkVerlag.
