Reinhard Gnauck

Reinhard Gnauck (born November 24, 1935 in Breslau ) is a German doctor and politician.

biography

Gnauck grew up in Gera , studied medicine in Leipzig and received his doctorate there in 1959. In Gera he witnessed the uprising of June 17, 1953 . In 1959 Gnauck fled the GDR.

In 1963 he also obtained a diploma from the University of Freiburg . He began his medical practice in 1962 at the Presbyterian Hospital and Medical Center in Philadelphia and at the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in New York. From 1970 to 2000 he was a clinical gastroenterologist in Wiesbaden, where he a. a. Dedicated to early detection methods for colon cancer.

Gnauck was a member of the German Society for Gastroenterology, the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Gastroenterological Association and, since 1982, a member of the WHO Screening Committee.

He was also a co-founder of the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) in 1972 and its chairman from 1981 to 1985. With his membership in the ISHR, an entry ban into the GDR was established in 1976.

Gnauck is also a member of the Walter von Baeyer Society for Ethics in Psychiatry and the Evangelical Brotherhood of St. George's Order .

Gnauck lives in Mainz , is married and has a son.

Political positions

In 1972 Gnauck lodged a constitutional complaint against the Bundestag laws on the Moscow Treaty and the Warsaw Treaty , because they violated the reunification requirement anchored in the preamble of the Basic Law and various articles of the Basic Law.

Gnauck sympathized with the election of US President Trump in 2016 and is a member of the AfD Hessen .

In 2001 he signed the petition against the dismissal of the new-right journalist Götz Kubitschek from the Bundeswehr and in 2006 the "Appeal for Press Freedom", which protested against the exclusion of Junge Freiheit from the Leipzig Book Fair .

Gnauck was a sponsor of the reconstruction of the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig .
