Reinhard Ohse

Reinhard Ernst Ohse (born August 22, 1930 in Boizenburg / Elbe ) is a German church musician and composer .

Reinhard Ohse was born in Boizenburg on the Elbe. In 1949 he passed the Abitur in Rostock .

He studied church music at the Berlin church music school with Ernst Pepping and Gottfried Grote . He completed this course with the B examination. Ohse was cantor and organist in Bützow (Mecklenburg) from 1954 to 1956 .

From 1956 to 1958 he studied at the church music school in Halle and completed his studies with the A-exam. From 1958 to 1978 Ohse was cathedral organist in Halle (Saale) , during this time he led the choir of the Protestant student community, which was based in Halle's Jenastift for decades . He taught as a lecturer for composition at the church music school in Halle. As a cathedral organist he began to compose and wrote numerous chorale preludes and motets for his own use. In addition, he wrote works of various genres, e.g. B. organ works, string quartets and chamber music. In order to expand his compositional craft, he took private lessons from 1967 to 1977 with Tilo Medek . In 1974 his oratorio “Lament and Consolation of Jeremiah” was premiered in Magdeburg.

From 1978 until his retirement in 1996 Ohse was cantor at Naumburg Cathedral and directed the cathedral choir and the Naumburg chamber choir. In 1987 the Lettner Passion for solo, choir and orchestra was created based on the passion relief of the Naumburg master . This passion has since been performed in various places. She musically pursues the depicted scenes of the Westlettner , with the passion story being sung by the choir and the words of Jesus by a bass soloist. All eight movements are accompanied by drums.

The church music director Ohse has been retired since 1996 . Since his retirement Ohse has written a large number of compositions, including a concerto for organ and large orchestra, which premiered in Naumburg Cathedral in 2009, and the song cycle calendar songs , the texts of which are taken from a calendar of daily poems.

On Thursday, January 26th, 2012, the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt , Dr. Reiner Haseloff , awarded the Federal Republic of Germany's Medal of Merit to Reinhard Ohse's Magdeburg State Chancellery.
