Reinhard Walter

Reinhard Walter (born November 3, 1940 in Görlitz ) is a German sound engineer , jazz pianist and composer.

Life

Reinhard Walter is practically blind due to a congenital retinal disease. In 1956 he left Görlitz to attend secondary school for the blind and visually impaired in Königs Wusterhausen , which he finished with his Abitur in 1960. He then began part-time training as a studio assistant at the radio in the GDR , which he completed in 1964.

In the early 1960s, Walter founded his first jazz combo, the Reinhard Walter Jazz Trio, which included trombonist Hubert Katzenbeier and drummer Wolfgang Schneider . In 1973 he moved to the music and radio play production department. He began distance learning at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in East Berlin , graduating in 1982 as a jazz pianist and in 1985 as a sound engineer. From 1976 to 1983 he was a pianist in the Friedhelm Schönfeld Trio . At VEB Deutsche Schallplatten Berlin he produced two long-playing records , on which he also participated musically. Walter composed the music for numerous radio play productions for radio play in the GDR, including Vineta , Die Möwenesser (1984), Jakob und der Andere , Die Carlton-Komödie (1989), The Last Call (1989) and King Bamba (1991), and wrote arrangements for orchestra of the GDR radio. As a sound engineer, he was in charge of the radio amateur program DX-Aktuell .

After the peaceful revolution in the GDR in 1989/90 and the transfer of radio in the GDR into new structures, Walter worked for the Deutschlandsender Kultur and then for the Deutschlandradio in Berlin. In 1998 he took early retirement. He continues to produce music in his private recording studio in Berlin .
