Reinhardt Jünemann

Reinhardt Jünemann (born August 9, 1936 in Thaldorf near Eisleben ) is an expert in logistics and material flow and is considered the founder of industrial logistics in Germany.

With the development of new types of research and subject areas such as recycling management and waste disposal logistics, he has shaped logistics over the past three decades. His best-known tenet is: "The logistical mission consists of: To provide the right quantity of the right objects as objects of logistics, in the right place, in the right quality, at the right time, at the right cost." Adaptation of the Lasswell formula from communication science.

Life

After studying mechanical engineering at the TH Dresden , Jünemann worked at the VEB rolling mill in Hettstedt before moving to the Federal Republic of Germany. There he worked for Bayer AG and Rheinstahl in Mülheim an der Ruhr for seven and six years respectively . In 1970 Jünemann received his doctorate at the Technical University of Berlin and two years later he was appointed professor in the Production Technology Department (today Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) at the University of Dortmund and took over the chair for materials handling and storage.

In 1973 he founded the German Society for Logistics in Dortmund , which he chaired. In 2000 the Bundesvereinigung Logistik e. V. (BVL) and the German Society for Logistics (DGfL) together. In 1978 Jünemann took over the office of Vice-Rector for Building and Spatial Issues at the university there. In 1980 he brought the special research area material flow systems to the Dortmund University. In the following year he began to set up the Fraunhofer Institute for Transport Technology and Goods Distribution (since 1989 Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML), whose management he held until 2000.

In 1982 Jünemann was elected Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and in the same year initiated the “Dortmund Conversations”, meanwhile the oldest German logistics event. A short time later, he suggested the construction of an autonomous and driverless suspended railway, the so-called H-Bahn , which has been connecting the northern and southern parts of the campus in Dortmund since 1984 . The Technology Park has also existed at the University of Dortmund since 1984, and Reinhardt Jünemann is considered the father of this park.

Reinhardt Jünemann has received several awards since 1987. On December 1, 1995, he was awarded the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia for being the “founder of industrial logistics” and for his “peaceful definition of logistics”.

As a result of his initiative, the second degree course for logistics clerks was created at his faculty in 1988. Ten years later, the new diploma course in logistics was established at Dortmund University. In 2000 Jünemann took over the management of Projekt Ruhr GmbH. A year later, he was 65 years emeritus . In 2001 he was elected honorary curator of the board of trustees of the Department of Materials Handling and Storage at the University of Dortmund. Jünemann gave the impetus to found the private SRH University for Logistics and Economics in Hamm , which offers the nationwide first bachelor's degree in logistics and was its founding rector. With the state recognition of the FH by the Ministry of Economics in North Rhine-Westphalia in September 2005, Hamm became a university town. For these services, the Lord Mayor awarded him the silver plaque of honor of the city of Hamm on August 11, 2006. Jünemann remained the rector of the institution until April 2007.
