Reinhold Hemker

Reinhold Hemker (born October 8, 1944 in Burgsteinfurt ) is a German politician.

Family, education and work

After graduating from high school in 1964, Hemker studied Protestant theology . From 1969 to 1971 he passed the first and second state exams for teaching at Realschule and Gymnasium for the subjects of Protestant religion, history, pedagogy and philosophy. From 1971 he first worked as a teacher. From 1972, after having passed the theological exams, he worked as a pastor in his birthplace Steinfurt and in Rheine. He then worked part-time in Rheine as a religion teacher until 1982 . From 1979 to 1985 he was a lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute in Schwerte .

In June 2007, he was at the University of Münster Dr. phil. doctorate ( solidarity learning ). Hemker is married and has two sons.

Party and public office

Hemker has been a member of the SPD since 1967 . From 1975 to 1983 he was a member of the district council of the Borken district .

In 1985, Hemker was elected as a member of the state parliament for the 10th legislative period of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament. Re-elected in 1990, he left the state parliament on November 30, 1994 during the 11th legislative period, as he had been an elected member of the German Bundestag since November 10, 1994 . He was elected through a direct mandate from constituency 129 Steinfurt III in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2009 he left the Bundestag.

Hemker is primarily involved in development policy and sports policy , where he also performs various voluntary functions. Among other things, he is President of the German-Zimbabwean Society and board member of the Board of Trustees for Sport and Nature.

From November 2010 to February 2011, Hemker, who himself actively operated triathlons and can look back on several Ironman participations, was President of the German Triathlon Union . His choice was already highly controversial in advance, after Hemker his participation z. B. at Ironman Hawaii had financed from the parliamentary group of the SPD parliamentary group. On February 17, 2011, he announced his resignation.
