Reinhold von Walter (born August 5, 1882 in St. Petersburg , † September 17, 1965 in Ravensburg ) was a Baltic German writer and translator .

Life

Walter's father, Reinhold Wilhelm von Walter (1840-1909), was a pastor at St. Catherine's Church in St. Petersburg from 1875 to 1901. Walter began studying theology and philosophy, which he completed in 1909 with the state examination. He worked as a teacher until he was hired as a civil servant by the Russian government. After the fall of the Russian government during the world war, Walter emigrated to the German Reich in 1917. There he lived in Berlin for the first few years until he moved to Cologne in 1926.

Reinhold von Walter worked a. a. with the sculptor Ernst Barlach , who gave one of his works ( Moses ) Walter's features. In addition, Barlach created a series of woodcuts for a poem written by Walter.

Reinhold von Walter translated a large number of Russian works into German.
